2010 Census: Is important, safe and easy.

In 2010, as required by the U.S. Constitution, the Census Bureau will conduct a full count of the country's population which will define, among many other things the political representation in Congress, and how billions of dollars in government funds are allocated.

However, one of the big challenges for the Census Bureau is to be able to count everybody living in the country and unfortunately, Hispanics are one of the groups hardest to count accurately.

That's why the Census Bureau and a group of Hispanic organizations in Georgia have come to form the Latino Complete Count Committee: to help bring the message to all Hispanics living in Georgia of the importance of answering the census questionnaire, that participating in the census is easy, and that it is safe to give information to the Census because their information will keep confidential and will not be shared with any other government or law enforcement agency.

As part of their efforts to bring this message to all Hispanics is the region, the Census Bureau Atlanta Regional Office held the Census 2010 Hispanic / Latino Partners Summit in Destin Florida on July 7th and 8th with the participation of Hispanic organizations in Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

The summit program included information about the census, preparations for census day April 1st, and information sessions that addressed many of the concerns of the community about the participation in the census, but most importantly was the invitation to become partners with the Census Bureau to be sure that everybody will be counted.

The Mexican American Business Chamber is proud of its partnership with the Census Bureau and its participation in the Georgia Latino Complete Count Committee as Co-Chair of the Business Sub-Committee.
